United has done the best thing that it could do given the circumstances: cut a huge check to Dr. Dao for damages and move on from this disaster. In fact, the check was that good, that Dr. Dao’s attorney Thomas Demetrio said: “Mr. Munoz said he was going to do the right thing, and he has.” United has taken “full responsibility” – according to TMZ.
So now what?
United has a lot of work to do and a lot of trust to regain. The plan that was outlined earlier this morning looks promising, but as United’s website now says ‘actions speak louder than words’. Maybe United’s new slogan? I’d get rid of the ‘Friendly Skies’; there’s just a bad taste about it now. But I for one am excited to see the upcoming changes, and the benefits and improvements that these will bring about.
United has confirmed this in their news site with the below statement:
We are pleased to report that United and Dr. Dao have reached an amicable resolution of the unfortunate incident that occurred aboard flight 3411. We look forward to implementing the improvements we have announced, which will put our customers at the center of everything we do.
As for me, I’ll keep my loyalty with United and hope that we see quick action following the closure of this matter today.
