Chase MileagePlus Explorer card referrals offer

UPDATE 6/11/2017: Although in the image below there’s a due date of April 18, the offer is still available.

United is inviting folks here to earn up to 50,000 bonus miles per years by referring others to apply for the United MileagePlus Explorer card.  For each approval that was referred by you, you’ll earn 10,000 bonus miles.  Though off the bat this offer might seem tempting, there are a few things to consider beforehand.

Some time ago, I tweeted United asking about their referral program, as their webpage was out of pocket.  United said that the referral program was down for maintenance and would be back up later in November.  I heard nothing until this week I received this offer from United – which by the way, is the first one of the sort I receive.  Although it’s been available for Chase branded cards, I’ve never been able to leverage friend referrals for co-branded cards like the United MileagePlus Explorer.  So when I received this, I was happy about it.

The offer

  • You earn 10,000 bonus miles per MileagePlus Explorer card referral made up to 50,000 bonus miles.
  • Referrals must be made between March 7 and April 18.
  • Your friend earns increased sign-up bonus offer of 50,000 miles after $3,000 spend within 3 months.

To think about

Should you apply?

As always, circumstances vary and you must determine whether to move on this or not.  If you’re over 5/24, it could be a good deal to refer friends for this card.  Still, they may not be getting the best offer out there for this very card, since there’s a targeted 70,000 miles offer for it right now.  Even if they’re not targeted for the 70,000, it might be a better option to attain other cards before this one, if under 5/24 like the Chase Sapphire cards and the Chase Ink card, which may be having an increased sign-up bonus offer itself soon.

In conclusion, after considering the above information, it may be that it’s still a good idea to leverage this referral over.  I’d also share the information with the folks you refer, to ensure that they’re aware of the other options they may have at their disposal.
